£3,750.00
Gold Zeri Mahbub, Misr (Cairo) Mint, AH 1168 (AD 1754/5)
A beautifully struck and highly desirable Ottoman Empire gold Zeri Mahbub, issued in the first year of Sultan ‘Uthman III’s brief and historically significant reign. Coins from this period are increasingly sought after due to the sultan’s short tenure and the refined artistry of mid-18th-century Ottoman gold coinage.
Obverse
Within a beaded circular border, the inscription reads:
“Sulṭān al-barrayn wa khāqān al-baḥrayn, al-Sulṭān ibn al-Sulṭān” —
“Sultan of the two lands and Khaqan of the two seas, Sultan son of Sultan.”
Reverse
The elegant, highly stylized tughra of ‘Uthman III within a matching beaded circle. Below:
“ʿAzza naṣruhū ḍuriba” — “May his victory be honoured! Struck [at Misr].”
