A Fine “Talik Calligraphy Plate”
Ottoman Era, Dated 1314 AH / 1896 AD
An elegant and richly adorned calligraphy panel executed in talik script by the esteemed Ottoman calligrapher, As-Seyyid Ahmed Rıfat es-Sünbülî. Rendered in soot ink on aharlı paper, the panel bears a deeply evocative inscription:
“Garîk-i bahr-i Isyanip, oh Messenger of Allah / I have sunk in the sea of rebellion, I seek refuge in you, oh Messenger of Allah.”
The composition is masterfully illuminated with delicate gold detailing and enhanced with intricate floral motifs. Framed within gold-ruled margins, the panel is further distinguished by fine marbling between the borders, and an outermost battal marbling of exceptional quality.
