Hilmi is an esteemed calligrapher within the Hafız Osman Aklam-ı Sitte tradition, which is renowned for producing some of the most significant works in Islamic calligraphy. The Hafız Osman Aklam-ı Sitte school has produced many notable calligraphers whose contributions are regarded as both historically and artistically invaluable. Hafız Osman himself is celebrated for his monumental calligraphy in the Hagia Sophia, where he inscribed large panels on the grand icons.
